Ballpoint pen on paper
48 × 24 inches

In Message to the Universe III, Maduka Onyebuchi explores the act of expressing hopes and releasing dreams into the universe. Belonging to a series of three works, the composition uses a heart-shaped balloon and outstretched hands to embody aspirations voiced individually and collectively.

Rendered in ballpoint pen on paper, intricate linework captures the creases of the hands and the reflective surface of the balloon. Vivid colour contrasts with monochromatic skin tones and a warm, earthy background, while a slender ribbon draws the eye between the human gesture below and the floating form above.

The work reflects on the vulnerability and optimism of giving voice to one’s desires, inviting viewers to consider the relationship between personal dreams and shared hope.
